Windward Mexican eatery marks first year, adds liquor to menu

After recently marking its one-year anniversary at Windward City Shopping Center, Don Goyo’s Mexican Food continues the celebration with the addition of a liquor license. The new license allows the family-owned restaurant to expand its offerings to its many devoted patrons on the windward side.

“We’re excited that Don Goyo’s has marked a milestone with us at Windward City Shopping Center, helping us to become a go-to destination for those craving meals inspired by cultures from around the world,” said Jean J. Evans, Property Manager of Windward City Shopping Center. “We are thankful to the community for supporting Don Goyo’s Mexican Food, which has resulted in this menu expansion, and for continuing to visit our many stores and restaurants.”

“We love our neighbors,” said Cornelio Chaidez, owner of Don Goyo’s Mexican Food. “We look forward to this exciting addition to our menu, allowing our customers to now enjoy margaritas and beer, along with their favorite food — responsibly, of course. We’re excited to give our regulars something new to delight their palate.”

Happy hour is daily, from 2 to 4 p.m., with imported beer for $4 and domestic beers for $2.50. Pineapple and strawberry margaritas are available. Chaidez plans to add wine to the menu. For now, he finds that customers are happy with the new additions.

Don Goyo’s Mexican Food has become a favorite of many on the Windward side, serving a variety of mouthwatering dishes such as fish ceviche, chicken enchiladas, generously sized burritos and more.

“Personally, my favorite dish is the carnitas burrito,” shared Chaidez. “It consists of carnitas with rice and beans inside, with pico de gallo, lettuce and our spicy sauce. It’s a very good burrito that brings you back to life.”

Chaidez moved to Hawaii in 2013 in hopes of becoming a Spanish professor, but the world of Mexican cuisine took him in another direction in 2015. Chaidez named his colorful, festive restaurant after his father. Many of the generously sized dishes on the restaurant’s robust menu are family favorites, using time-tested recipes.
